The Falcons announced today that they have re-signed WR Brian Finneran to a new four-year contract.
"It was a priority for us to retain Brian Finneran and we're happy that we have gotten this deal accomplished," said President & General Manager Rich McKay. "Brian is an integral part of our passing game and compliments our running game with a physical presence, in addition to contributing on special teams."
Finneran finished second on the team in receptions with 50 and receiving yards with 611 while adding two touchdowns in his sixth season in a Falcons uniform in 2005. The 50 catches and 611 receiving yards were second only to Pro Bowl TE Alge Crumpler's 65 receptions and 877 yards, and were the second-highest single-season totals of Finneran's career.
Finneran, a 6-5, 217 pound, seven-year veteran out of Villanova, has caught 187 career passes for 2,647 yards for a 14.2 average with 15 touchdowns in 86 games played with 35 starts. Since 2001, 68% (121 out of 178) of Finneran's receptions have been caught for either a first down or touchdown. "Fin" has also been a key contributor on special teams for the birds during his time in Atlanta.
Finneran was originally signed as undrafted free agent by Seattle on April 28, 1998. After being released by the Seahawks during the final cutdown, he was signed by Philadelphia on July 6, 1999. He was released by the Eagles on October 12, 1999, and signed to the Falcons practice squad on December 13, 1999.
